Winemaker Derek Barnett continues to put his Chardonnay in Canadian oak even under his own label, probably not his most popular wine (it should be), but for those looking for something unique or different in Chardonnay it certainly delivers that: 19 months in a grand total of 2 barrels has brought out coconut, pineapple and tropical spices along with good texture and a real acid punch on the finish. Typical notes of apple and spiced pear are also present, but it’s those radical departures of the norm on the nose that makes this so interesting and worth seeking out. Price: $27.00 – Rating: ****
