Another great job with Gamay for winemaker Katie Dickieson who seems to have discovered a love for the grape (if not a real penchant for making it and doing justice with it). 75% of the grapes come from Carlton Farm – the wine is then aged in a mix of older puncheon (300L) and foudre (extra large) barrels allowing the fruit to shine and diminishing the oak experience … 10-15% of the incoming grapes are whole cluster pressed. This is really a very cherry version of Gamay with notes of white pepper, cranberry and even some strawberry on the finish. Lovely and approachable – ready to drink now and I’d even recommend a 30 minute chill. Price: $21.95 – Rating: ****
