(February 2023) ... Gran Selezione is the top tier of Chianti Classico production and it is required the wine remain aging for 30 months - it also stipulates the wines be made from all estate fruit. Many wineries use this to showcase their single vineyard output. The debut of this wine was in 2014, and made from the 2010 vintage. In this grouping, the 2019s showed lots of elegance with eight of my top 10 wines being from that vintage. A grand total of 119 wines were tasted from this category while only 46 made the grade. All wines showcased we're finished, so there were no barrel samples, thus no need to give any wine. The good / better / best treatment ... not all wines have a note.
In total, I tasted 257 wines this year over the course of the 2 days.
