Taste it Again / Lost & Found

A Canadian Inspired Birthday

29 Dec 2016

(May 10, 2016) ... So my wife is having her birthday dinner, and while she always says I'm in control of the wines I do know what she likes (Sparkling and Chardonnay) so I built her refills accordingly - but with a little something for me.

We started with a Hinterland 2007 Rose, you really can't go wrong with Hinterland bubbles, they are as consistent a sparkling producer as they come, even "off vintages" are still good. Here we stepped back in time to the '07, and while the description might not be great, you'll have to trust me that the taste was ... over-ripe strawberry, lime,  and bready on the nose; palate also showed that breadiness along with lemon pith, and burnt or over-ripe strawberry with some yeasty bits - maybe it would have been better to just say it was very nice.

Up next is another wine from the County, more recent and full on white: Closson Chase 2013 The Brock Chardonnay; this "lower end" labeling is one of the best values in the Closson line-up when they make it. The Brock is made from Niagara fruit - The Loyalist (when made, is all PEC) - pineapple, caramel apple, baked pear, with a luxuriously long finish.
