From the Cellar

Mt Monster 2007 Shiraz, Limestone Coast (Australia)

26 Jul 2015

(March 29, 2015) ... I'm digging a little deeper into the cellar these day and today I went back to the '07 vintage before settling on this Mt Monster Shiraz, which proved to be a good year for Shiraz. The nose was rich & ripe black fruit: cassis, blackberry, and plum, with vanilla and spice playing a supportive role. Palate doled out more good characteristics like chocolate, cassis, vanilla, and plum, with some spiced creme de cassis and a pretty big dose of pepper. Old Shiraz has interesting notes, especially under screwcap where they seem to develop slower and once opened expose themselves almost as slowly.

The white wine opened this evening was a Southbrook 2013 Triomphe Chardonnay - full review can be found here.
