On the Road with the Grape Guy
Montefalco Grechetto e Bianco (2025 Tasting)
03 Feb 2026- Details
- Category: On the Road with the Grape Guy

Time to start looking at the wines from Umbria, A Montefalco, the Anteprima for the Sagrantino area. I'll kick this one off with the Grechetto and the Bianco ... sadly, two of my least favourite wines. This year I add a little "personal aside" to my notes. These are spur of the moment comments that I wrote at the time of the tasting, after going through all the wines in that category.
Montefalco Grechetto DOC
Better
Benedetti&Grigi 2024 "Eros" (50% Grechetto, 50% Grechetto)
Good
La Veneranda 2024 Grechetto
Colle Ciocco 2023 "Clarignano" (85% Grechetto, 15% Viogner)
Terre De La Custodia 2023 Grechetto
Personal Aside: Grechetto, to me, continues to lack personality - even the top wine on this list really defies definition and the GOOD are just drinkable. Not sure how to help Grechetto as a variety, I know some people love it, but when compared to something else, it lacks personality.
Montefalco Bianco DOC
Better
Terre De La Custodia 2021 "Plentis" (60% Trebbiano Spoletino, 40% Chardonnay)
Good Plus
Tenuta Di Saragano 2023 Trebbiano Spoletino
Good
Scacciadiavoli 2024 (50% Trebbiano Spoletino, 30% Grechetto, 20% Chardonnay)
Tenuta Alzatura 2023 "Aria Di Casa"
Personal Aside: Truly one of the most lasckluster of the tasting sections. I wish I had better news, but I really find these wines boring and uneventful. Drop these and concentrate on Spoletino, please.
