(February 2025) ... Capezana pulled out all the stops this year, opening a 100-year-old bottle. The opening did not go as planned, but once the bottle was opened... yeah.
This is my first bottle ever tasted of a wine of this age, and it truly was a revelation about the ageability of this wine in particular.
This tasting features a lot of "fives" ..
tasting notes, in are presented in order of tasting.
Capezzana 1995 Carmignano
(Sangiovese 80% / Cabernet Sauvignon 15% / Canaiolo 5%)
Mocha, leather and crème de cassis with good acidity. Tannins are a tad grippy, but advanced.  DRINK or HOLD
Capezzana 1985 Carmignano
(Sangiovese 70% / Cabernet Sauvignon 10% / Canaiolo 10% / Colorino e Mammolo)
Light on fruit and structure, but the acidity is good and looks Pinot-esque in colour, leaning brownish.  DRINK

Capezzana 1975 Carmignano
(Sangiovese 70% / Cabernet Sauvignon 10% / Canaiolo 10% / Colorino e Mammolo)
Light and alive with good acidity. Prunish notes, savoury, dried leaves - probably the most interesting of the wines so far.  DRINK
 Capezzana 1925 Carmignano
Capezzana 1925 Carmignano
(N/A)
Clear and clean, light and alive; surprising. Wine is almost see through. If you have a bottle of this, open and enjoy – it’s worth it.  WOW
Capezzana 2005 Carmignano
(Sangiovese 80% / Cabernet Sauvignon 20%)
Subtle, soft and smooth, nice fruit with hints of coffee and mocha.  DRINK or HOLD
Capezzana 2015 Carmignano
(Sangiovese 80% / Cabernet Sauvignon 20%)
Plenty of tannic structure, gritty fruit and spice, still needs time to resolve itself.  HOLD
Capezzana 2021 Carmignano
(Sangiovese 80% / Cabernet Sauvignon 20%)
There's a smoothness to this wine that is unexpected, light and fruity, as far as that goes with these wine. Fruit forward with less aggressive spice and tannins. This seems an outlier of ones I’ve had in the past – and is a welcome change in style.  DRINK or HOLD

Capezzana 2023 Trebbiano
(Trebbiano)
There's a thickness and weight to this wine. Nice acidity, citrus pith and lemon rind … all completed with good length and finish.
Capezzana 2021 Ghiaie della Furba
Has lovely dark fruit and mocha, black cherry, spiced plum and cassis, savoury and super interesting to experience over the course of an evening.
